What Is Telemedicine?

Telemedicine encompasses all the different aspects of providing medical services to your patients remotely, whether this is over the phone or via online consultation. In addition to this, telemedicine tools can also be used to conduct multi-disciplinary team (MDT) conferences and other such activities.

Telemedicine represents an excellent opportunity for you to engage with patients who:

  • Have limited mobility

  • Live far away from you, e.g. abroad

  • Prefer the convenience of an online consultation

  • Cannot travel at present, e.g. social distancing, self-isolating

Use Medesk Meet for Telemedicine Online Consultations

Telemedicine, Telehealth & mHealth

As opposed to telemedicine which is used primarily in acute care settings for relatively minor conditions, telehealth is more to do with supporting the treatment of long-term conditions. You can provide telehealth services in a straightforward manner as long as patients have a way of easily recording the data you need and then sending it over to you. For example, they could be using a blood pressure monitor that automatically sends systolic and diastolic readings via their wi-fi connection. Any aberrant results would then generate an alert, at which point you would contact the patient and bring them in for a consultation or, indeed, offer a telemedicine video consultation.

In addition to telemedicine and telehealth, we also have mHealth. The letter ‘M’ stands for mobile, so actually all this means is telehealth and telemedicine services that are provided by means of mobile technology. For example, if a healthcare provider uses a video consultation tool such as Medesk Meet, then the patients using the corresponding app could be said to be engaging with mHealth.

I was very impressed with the professionalism and care taken to setup Medesk as my practice management system. Whilst dealing with Dr May, I was confident in his ability to deliver the product I wanted in the way I wanted - which he did in the time frame agreed and was readily accessible throughout. Medesk is a fantastic system which is intuitive, user-friendly and very easy to use without any loss of high-end functionality and is fully compliant with all legislation.

The best booking system if you have more than one employee. The support provided was great. Platform offers a bunch of customised features. Could be not as competitive as other similar products however, does offer more overall.
